/CUK STUDENT GOVERNING COUNCIL ELECTION

In line with the Co-operative University of Kenya Student (s) Union (CUKSU) Constitution as provided under Article 24 (1) (b) the Electoral Commission hereby declares the following positions open for contest.

  1. Congress Person(s)
  2. Electoral College
  3. Students Governing Council (SGC)

The process shall be guided by the election calendar of events that will be published in due course.

The Electoral Commission wishes to inform the students’ fraternity that, due to the protocols are given by the Ministry of Health (MoH) on matters of COVID-19, the elections for this year shall be conducted virtually.

The procedure on how to nominate and vote for your preferred candidate(s) shall be shared with you in due course.

We wish to inform you that those who are interested in contesting for the position of Congress are required to pay the nomination requisite fee via M-Pesa number 0729 216 914.

After making the payment, send the following details to the email address cmbuthia@cuk.ac.ke, Your Name, Registration Number, Course, Year of Study, and M-Pesa reference number. Payments can be done from 11th May 2021 up to and including 13th May 2021.

Kindly refer to CUKSU Constitution Article 11 (3) for qualification requirements.

As per CUKSU Constitution Article 11 (3), a candidate for the position of congress MUST meet the following qualifications:

  1. He/she must be a registered member of the respective congressional areas in accordance with this constitution;
  2. He/she  must be nominated by at least 10% (ten percent) of the members in the respective congressional areas;
  3. He/she shall not be a candidate of the Students Governing Council on the same election period;
  4. Subject to Article 9, subsection (4) of this constitution, all qualifications for election to the SGC shall automatically apply;
  5. The candidate must pay a nomination fee of 500 and submit their Name, Registration Number, Course, Year of Study, and M-Pesa reference number to email address cmbuthia@cuk.ac.ke by 13th May 2021.

We wish to inform you that those who are interested in contesting for any position in the Students Governing Council (SGC) are required to pay the nomination requisite fee via M-Pesa number 0729 216 914.

After making the payment, send the following details to the email address cmbuthia@cuk.ac.ke, Your Name, Registration Number, Course, Year of Study, and M-Pesa reference number. Payments can be done from 11th May 2021 up to and including 13th May 2021.

NB: Aspirants contesting for the position of Chairperson, must indicate the name of their running mate (Vice Chairperson) who shall be of the opposite gender when submitting their details.

As per CUKSU constitution article 9 (4) a candidate for the position of SCG MUST meet the following qualifications:

  1. Is an ordinary member of CUKSU and;
  2. Is nominated by not less than 10% of the members  of  CUKSU; and,
  3. Is a student at the University with at least one year left before completion of his/her studies;
  4. Is a student who has attained an average grade of C in his studies (In his/her past examinations) and has never sat for a supplementary examination;
  5. Has not been found guilty by the University Disciplinary Committee and/ or the Student Disciplinary Committee for any offence;
  6. Be able to serve on the Student Governing Council for a period not less than twelve (12) months.
  7. Has never served in a Students Governing Council in another University;
  8. Has never been convicted of a criminal offence by a competent court in the Republic of Kenya;
  9. The candidate must pay nomination fee and submit their Name, Registration Number, Course, Year of Study and M-pesa reference number to email address cmbuthia@cuk.ac.ke by 13th May, 2021.

  1. Be a member of the specific academic department;
  2. Be an ordinary student of The Co-operative University of Kenya;
  • Be known of his/her high integrity;
  1. Have not served for any previous SGC or Congress;
  2. Have a good academic record, having not sat for a supplementary examination;
  3. Have not been found guilty of any offence by SDC;
  • Not be vying in a position in the Students Governing Council.
  • The candidate must pay a nomination fee of Kshs.500 and submit their Name, Registration Number, Course, Year of Study and M-Pesa reference number to email address cmbuthia@cuk.ac.ke by 13th May 2021.
