The Co-operative University of Kenya’s newly elected students’ leaders have been sworn in in a ceremony attended by the University’s Ag. Vice Chancellor Prof. Ngamau Kamau. The leaders were elected in the recently concluded elections at the university. Prof. Ngamau congratulated the leaders and thanked them for conducting their campaigns maturely and peacefully.

Speaking during the swearing in ceremony, Prof. Ngamau urged the new leaders that their main job was be to represent and articulate students’ issues to the management. He thanked the outgoing students’ council for the good work and maturity they displayed in dealing with pertinent issues.

Also present during the swearing in is the CUK’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs Prof. Emily Akuno who congratulated the new leaders, reminding them that the electorate voted them in based on their capabilities in building and nurturing of the students’ body. She asked the students leaders, as they carried out their leadership activities to always remember that their core business of being in the university is being a student and should lead by example by maintaining their studentship.

The newly elected students’ chairman Mr. John Paul, delivering his maiden speech after being sworn in, reiterated his commitment to nonpartisan leadership, integrity and dialogue in articulating the needs of the students. He thanked the students for believing in him and voting him in.

The following leaders were sworn in; Chairman, Mr. John Paul;  Vice Chairman, Blessed Brian Obakha, Secretary General Mr. Paul Ndirangu, Finance Secretary Alfonse Augustus Musyoka, Chief Editor Elect Kang’ethe wa Thang’ura , Sports Secretary Elect Ken Musa, and Accommodation Secretary Elect Paul Kimani. Mr. Pishan Kibet Ruto, the entertainment secretary is yet to be sworn in. present during the swearing in ceremony were the registrar academic affairs rm. David Otiende, Ag. Dean of students Mrs. Lucinda Mugaa and the CUK electoral commission members and students of the University.
