The Co-operative University of Kenya, Kipepeo Imaging and Chartered Institute of Marketing have signed innovative pacts for capacity building of Micro, Small and Medium Entrepreneurs Co-operative Enterprises in Kenya dubbed Trade & Commerce Hub Africa (TRACOHA) project.
The trio are set to develop an information hub for Co-operative enterprises, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) which will enhance and stimulate partnerships between the private and public sector in creating a Web Portal and Business Center that can be accessed countrywide and globally through various communication applications.
The HUB seeks to bridge the gap between the producers, entrepreneurs or idea generators and the market. To this end the HUB is set to incorporate a website with a marketplace for the Kenyan community seeking to trade their goods.
Further the pacts are set to benefit the Small, Micro and Medium enterprise business owners by providing training, information, business incubation and research in capacity building; in creating of a co-operative model and increasing Co-operative membership in the Country; in developing and creating awareness on emerging innovations and approaches to appropriate Co-operative Business models for to provide a solution for local and international problems.
While signing the agreements at The Co-operative University of Kenya in Karen on 9th March, 2017, the University’s Ag. Vice Chancellor Prof. Kamau Ngamau was upbeat that this will enable offering capacity and mentorship to Small, Micro & Medium Enterprises (SMMEs) that will subscribe in the sector.
Prof. Ngamau argued that the sharing of knowledge, skills and best practices through trainings, webinar, podcast among other platforms and engaging the Kenyan entrepreneurs and University students to build capacity in marketing will be a booster towards strengthening student’s skills in preparation for the job markets.
Mr. James Ngomeli, the Chairman Chartered Institute of Marketing in East Africa lauded The Co-operative University of Kenya for continued support and energy in revitalizing the Kenya’s vibrant Co-operative movement’s success in Africa and at the Global Scene. He noted that CUK is a strategic partner as a knowledge and information hub to work and collaborate with. He further assured the University that CIM and both its Local and International partners are going to ensure that the implementation of the MoU is a success.
He added that the co-operative sector, in which the University falls under, is also working with private partners to ensure that the co-operative movement is on and will help the small and medium size enterprise as they are often left out and it’s the only way to improve our economy.
