The International Music Council has elected Professor Emily Achieng Akuno its President. She was elected to this position during the 37th General Assembly on the 11th and 12th of June 2017. Prof. Emily has served in different Universities at different capacities and also around the World. She has a wide range of experience in the music profession. She has a Doctor of philosophy degree from Kingston University. She also has a master in music from North West State University from U.S.A and many more.

She is the first Kenyans to be elected in the prestigious position and the second African for the position since 1988.

As IMC President, Prof. Akuno will lead the executive board with representation from Africa, Europe, Asia, America and the Arab world.  The Cooperative University of Kenya congratulates the Professor for this election. Prof Akuno is currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs at The Co-operative University of Kenya.
