The Co-operative University College of Kenya’s participation in this year’s International Co-operatives Day was at its peak with the varsity choir being atop of the entertainers. The team from the university was led by Dep. Principal AA Prof. Kamau Ngamau and director of Institute for Co-operative Development, Research and Extension Prof. E.N. Gicheru. This year’s theme is, Choose co-operatives, choose equality.

The day was marked at Uhuru park grounds in Nairobi. The Chief Guest was the cabinet secretary ministry of industrialization and enterprise development Adan Mohamed.

The co-operative movement in Kenya is the most vibrant in Africa and 7th best in the World, mobilising well over 30% of our GDP. It is in this recognition that last year in November, the Alliance Africa held its 11th Regional Assembly in Nairobi. The forum brought together members of the Alliance Africa, government representatives, development partners, researchers and practitioners in the co-operative sector. The focus was on the emerging business trends and how Co-operatives across the continent can respond to the changing business environment guided by the pillars of the ICA Blue Print for a Co-operative Decade 2010-2020.

The co-operative way of doing business has been proven to be better and brings a more effective balance to the global economy.
