Rationale of the Programme

The Bachelor of Science in Data Science is founded on providing high quality and relevant academic and industry skills, required in both the co-operative and general business sector, by linking education to industry and societal needs through imparting analytical skills necessary to generate information from the huge amounts of data generated by the co-operative sector and other industry players.

To meet this emerging industry need, this programme seeks to produce graduates that are professional, possessing statistical and analytical skills capable of addressing the needs of the co-operative and business sector in line with the university mission of being a leading trainer and mission of contributing to national development through quality and market driven training that produces leaders in diverse fields of the economy.

The programme is intended to provide students with a wide range of technical and technological skills required by industry. The learner will gain not only knowledge, skills and correct attitudes in Data Science but also statistical as well as the latest computing technologies that support underlying principles of Data Science .

Programme Specific Admission Requirements

Candidates wishing to study BSc. Data Science programme must satisfy at least one

of the following minimum requirements for admission:

  1. Be a holder of KCSE (or equivalent examination) certificate with a minimum aggregate of C+ and a minimum of C+ in both Mathematics and English or Kiswahili,

OR

  1. KNEC Diploma in Data Science /Information Technology /Business Information Technology or its equivalent from an Accredited and Recognized Institution,

OR

  1. CUK Diploma in Data Science /Information Technology /Business Information Technology /Applied Statistics (Equivalent to KNEC Diploma).

OR

  1. The Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE), East African Certificate of Education (EACE) “Ordinary Level” Division II or their equivalents, plus a CUK /KNEC Diploma or their equivalents from an Accredited and Recognized Institution,

OR

  1. The Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE), East African Certificate of Education (EACE) Ordinary Level Division III or their equivalents, plus CUK/KNEC Certificate and CUK/KNEC Diploma or their equivalents from an Accredited and Recognized Institution,

OR

  1. The Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE)” Advanced Level” with two Principal passes and a subsidiary.
