Rationale of the Programme

The programme is intended to provide students with a wide range of technical and technological skills required by industry. The learner will gain not only knowledge, skills and correct attitudes in Applied Statistics but also the latest computing technologies and underlying principles of Applied Statistics . The programme will also equip students with a good understanding of the principles of Applied Statistics with Computing, aspects of which will be at the leading edge of knowledge with the necessary skills for team work in an industrial and scientific research environment.

Sound Application, a modern statistical tool in the research process, is becoming more critical today than ever in order to respond to the needs of the data-driven economies. Emergence of big data being generated by ever expanding online transactions call for generation of new knowledge, attitudes and skills that are aligned. The BSc. Applied Statistics programme responds to the current and future demands for such knowledge, attitudes and skills. The programme is anchored on relevant learning theories and principles aimed at producing competent applied statisticians who will effectively support various sectors such as communications, manufacturing, banking and finance, education, transportation, entertainment, medicine, agriculture, and law with special focus on their Cooperative sub-sectors.

Programme Specific Admission Requirements

Candidates wishing to study BSc. Applied Statistics programme must satisfy at least one of the following minimum requirements for admission: 

  1. Be a holder of KCSE (or equivalent examination) certificate with a minimum aggregate of C+ and a minimum of C+ in both Mathematics and English or Kiswahili, 

OR 

  1. KNEC Diploma in Applied Statistics /Information Technology /Business Information Technology or its equivalent from an Accredited and Recognized Institution, 

OR 

  1. CUK Diploma in Applied Statistics /Information Technology /Business Information Technology (Equivalent to KNEC Diploma), 

OR 

  1. The Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE), East African Certificate of Education (EACE) “Ordinary Level” Division II or their equivalents, plus a CUK/KNEC Diploma or their equivalents from an Accredited and Recognized Institution, OR 
  2. The Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE), East African Certificate of Education (EACE) Ordinary Level Division III or their equivalents, plus CUK/KNEC Certificate and CUK/KNEC Diploma or their equivalents from an Accredited and Recognized Institution, 

OR 

  1. The Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) “Advanced Level” with two Principal passes and a subsidiary.
